What we check.

Fibers per Annex I

Names, percentage totals, order, and purity terms per Regulation (EU) No 1007/2011. Including alias knowledge: “Acryl” is not a permitted name. “Polyacryl” is.

Mandatory information

Manufacturer name, postal and electronic address, EU responsible person, product identification per GPSR (EU) 2023/988. Required since December 2024.

Care symbols

Completeness and order per ISO 3758, plus fiber plausibility: wool at 60° or elastane with hot ironing gets flagged.

The risk

What it can cost.

€10,000–50,000 Typical dispute values in German competition-law enforcement (Abmahnung)
≈ €1,000 Typical opposing legal fees per cease-and-desist letter, plus your own defense costs
+ follow-up costs Possible relabeling, recalls, or a cease-and-desist declaration with contractual penalties

The fix costs €69. One enforcement letter can cost a hundred times that.

Orders of magnitude from published sources on German competition law; every case is different. Not legal advice.

Why it matters

Not theory. Case files.

Munich Higher Regional Court
6 U 2046/16

“Acryl” instead of “Polyacryl” on the label: ruled anti-competitive.

2016 · Reg. (EU) No 1007/2011 Annex I
Hamm Higher Regional Court
4 U 18/18

“Merinowolle” as a fiber name: not permitted and enforceable. Only “Wolle” (wool) per Annex I is allowed.

2018 · Fiber name
Celle Higher Regional Court
13 U 184/03

Missing labeling information: ruled a competition violation, enforcement allowed.

2004 · Labeling obligations
The check finds all three mistakes in one minute.

Textile labeling is one of the most cited enforcement triggers in German fashion e-commerce, relevant to anyone selling into Germany. Outcomes depend on the case and the court. This is not legal advice; it’s why we check.

FAQ

Questions.

Can I trust an AI?
The AI only reads your label. The verdict comes from a fixed rule engine of 48 rules, each with its legal basis – nothing is guessed. And every paid correction is reviewed by a human before it reaches you.
What do you check – and what not?
We check the labeling: fiber information, mandatory information, and care symbols across six markets (Germany/Austria, UK, USA, Canada, Australia, Switzerland). Not part of the check: whether your label matches your actual product – that’s what you confirm – plus product safety, chemicals, customs, and the special requirements for children’s clothing. Those need their own checks.
Is this legal advice?
No. Carelabel is a structured labeling check, not legal advice. As the party placing the product on the market, you remain responsible for the accuracy of your product information.
What happens to my file?
It stays confidential and is used only for the check. Your result is available under your check ID for 30 days. More in the privacy policy.
How fast is the result?
Under a minute – instant for all six markets.
What is the correction guarantee?
If a label we created is objected to by an authority or a court, we correct it free of charge and refund the order price. Every check is based on the product data you confirmed. Liability limited to the order value; details in our Terms.
Can’t I just fix it myself?
Sure – that’s why the check is free and reveals the first issue in full. The fix saves you the research: a correct fiber line in four languages, a print-ready label with your logo, and the correction guarantee.
What does the Digital Product Passport have to do with this?
From 2027 the EU introduces the digital product passport for textiles – every item gets a digital file, and labeling is its foundation. Label cleanly today and the groundwork is done. More above. We’ll keep you posted.
Which formats can I upload?
Photo (JPG, PNG, HEIC), PDF, or AI, up to 20 MB. A phone photo of the sewn-in label or a screenshot of your product data works too.
